John Cena once found himself in a difficult situation with Ford, the car behemoth.

The WWE star is said to have amassed a sizable automobile collection over time.

As of 2021, the actor most recognized for his part in “Ricky Stanicky” apparently has a significant collection of automobiles.

According to GQ, Cena has many expensive automobiles, including a 2009 Chevy Corvette ZRI, a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird, and his well-known ‘Corvette InCenaRator’.

However, it was his 2017 Ford GT that got him into trouble.

Cena bought this automobile the same year it was produced, at a reputed price of more than $450,000.

Ford was thought to build only a few hundred of these supercars each year, so those who were lucky enough to own one had to follow strict guidelines.

It is thought that Ford GT owners were chosen as ‘hand-picked consumers’ after going through an application procedure.

One of the requirements for these privileged clients was that they could not resell the vehicle for at least two years after purchase.

Unfortunately, Cena sold his only a few months after purchasing it. Whoops.

By selling the automobile so soon, Cena violated the sales agreement, which irritated Ford.

To make matters worse, it was alleged that the wrestler profited from the transaction.

According to a 2017 Forbes article, the lawsuit claimed Cena ‘unfairly made a large profit from the unauthorized resale flip of the vehicle, and Ford has suffered additional damages and losses, including, but not limited to, loss of brand value, ambassador activity, and customer goodwill due to the improper sale’.

The automotive company then launched a lawsuit against Cena, seeking $500,000. The next year, Ford and Cena struck an out-of-court settlement.

Outside of a regular judicial environment, they reached an agreement on a monetary settlement, the contents of which were kept confidential.

However, the settlement payments were not going straight into Ford’s coffers, but rather to a ‘good charity’.

Cena also issued a public apology.

He stated:

“I love the Ford GT and apologise to Ford, and encourage others who own the car to respect the contract.”

“I am pleased we could resolve this matter outside of court, and that a worthy charity will benefit from one of the most iconic cars in the world.”
