On X, previously known as Twitter, fans are expressing their grief. One fan writes, “I am heartbroken. Absolutely senseless.”

Another fan adds, “RIP Johnny. You will be missed.”

A third person says, “Another devastating blow to the General Hospital family. Rest in peace, Johnny Wactor. Our time with you was way too short.”

Someone else comments, “You were one of the good ones. I’m so sorry this happened to you.”

General Hospital posted a statement on its X account as well: “The entire General Hospital family is heartbroken to hear of Johnny Wactor’s untimely passing. He was truly one of a kind and a pleasure to work with each and every day.”

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones during this difficult time.”

Wactor’s talent agent, David Shaul, confirmed the actor’s untimely death to Variety.

Shaul described Wactor as a “spectacular human being” and noted his dedication to his craft, saying, “After over a decade together, he will leave a hole in our hearts forever.”

According to TMZ, Wactor’s mother, Scarlett, revealed that her 37-year-old son was shot and killed early Saturday morning in downtown Los Angeles.

She confirmed to NBC4 that he was shot while trying to prevent three men from stealing the catalytic converter from his car.

NBC4 reported that thieves frequently target catalytic converters due to the valuable metals they contain, which can be sold for profit.

Wactor’s younger brother, Grant, told the Daily Mail that the actor was escorting a female co-worker to their vehicles when he encountered the men attempting to steal from his car.

“He came across them and he thought his truck was being towed,” he revealed. “So he said something to the guys, like, ‘Hey, are you towing?’ And then once he turned around, he saw what was happening and he put his coworker behind him. And that’s when they shot him.”

One of the suspects fired at Wactor, and the trio then fled the scene.

Wactor was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

His mother expressed her anguish to NBC4, saying, “I just don’t understand what a senseless coward act by that person.”

Descriptions of the suspects have yet to be released. Wactor’s mother has expressed her hope that they are found swiftly.

The actor is survived by his mother and his younger brothers, Lance and Grant.

Wactor isn’t the only General Hospital star to have passed away in recent months.

Tyler Christopher, who portrayed Nikolas Cassadine in the long-running medical drama, died in October 2023.

His cause of death was determined to be positional asphyxia due to acute alcohol intoxication, with coronary artery atherosclerosis as a contributing factor.

Robyn Bernard, who played Terry Brock in General Hospital, also passed away in March 2024 at the age of 64.

The cause of her death has not been disclosed.
