During the first season of the popular show The Boys, the co-creator disclosed that Amazon had insisted on the removal of a particular scene.
Throughout its three seasons, The Boys has featured numerous shocking scenes involving the Supes. However, it appears that even in the upcoming fourth season, this trend will continue. Nevertheless, there was a specific part that Amazon Prime Video insisted the showrunners remove from the final cut.
In a Reddit Ask Me Anything session conducted during the initial release of the show, co-creator Eric Kripke unveiled the following information: “There was one scene that Amazon said, ‘F**K NO, you have to cut’.”
“I couldn’t quite understand why considering everything else we have in the show, but: Homelander (played by Anthony Starr), after being dressed down by Stilwell in episode two, was standing on one of the Chrysler building Eagles.”
“He pulled his pants down and started jerking off, mumbling, ‘I can do whatever I want’ over and over again until he climaxed all over New York City.”
“We shot it! Oh my God, Anthony was the BEST in that scene. Amazon seemed to think it wasn’t necessary. I thought it told me something about his psyche. To be clear, they’ve been great, that may have been the ONLY fight I lost in Season one.”
For those avid fans of the show, this revelation might trigger a sense of familiarity. And you’re absolutely correct, as this scene did indeed make its appearance at the conclusion of season two.
It’s reassuring to know that Starr’s diligent efforts didn’t end up being in vain, right?
As the show continues to progress, the creators are undeniably pushing the boundaries even further. Who could possibly forget the jaw-droppingly explicit exploding penis scene or the outrageous ‘Herogasm’ episode in season three?
It appears that the level of grossness is not going to diminish in the upcoming season. Stephen Fleet, the visual effects supervisor and associate producer, has unveiled that season four will feature “the most repulsive thing” he has ever encountered during his career in the industry.
In a tweet shared back in January, Fleet expressed the following: “I think I just saw the most disgusting thing I have seen working in this business thus far.”
Meanwhile, Starr openly acknowledged that the show continues to embrace a progressively “weirder and weirder” tone.
During a recent interview with Variety earlier this year, he remarked: “There has to be a ceiling, but we can’t seem to find it.”
Reflecting upon a particularly mind-boggling scene, he reminisced:
“I was looking at the person I was opposite, and I said, ‘What are we doing? I can’t believe this! I could have done anything else with my life, but here I am doing this?’
“It was truly the most bizarre thing I’ve ever done.” I can’t wait to see it.
