Many people adore dogs.
Dogs have long been considered man’s best friend, with their loyalty and companionship endearing them to millions of people around the world. Their playful nature and ability to provide comfort in times of need make them a popular addition to any household. Whether they’re playing fetch in the backyard or cuddling on the couch, dogs have a unique ability to bring joy and happiness into our lives. Their unending love and devotion make them truly irreplaceable companions. Furthermore, plenty of individuals have a special place in their hearts for dogs, whether they are service dogs or beloved pets.
However, some people do not have the same feelings for these furry creatures. After all, not everyone enjoys dogs, whether for reasons of fear, allergies, or personal preference. That is why it is critical to respect others’ feelings towards dogs and to be aware of their boundaries. While dogs bring joy to many people, it is crucial to understand and accommodate those who do not share that sentiment. So thinking it’s no big deal to bring a dog into a restaurant can be seen as tone-deaf. But that is precisely what the original poster (OP) of the following story believes.
From the title alone, we can glean that it is not a service dog that they are speaking about.
OP likes to frequent a restaurant that seems to be quite dog-friendly, and they have always seen a few doggos running around there.
According to the staff, dogs are allowed as long as they are well-behaved and do not disturb other people.
While OP usually sits outside with their dog, it was raining, so they decided to sit inside for that particular day.
The doggo was just chilling under the seat when a stranger started ranting about how dogs shouldn’t be allowed inside.
The stranger also mentioned that the owner had a policy against dogs, even though OP has never been made aware of such a rule.
OP mentioned how they had seen dogs in the restaurant before, even if they had never met the owner.
Things started to get a bit heated as both of these people started raising their voices and hurling insults at each other.
OP took things even further until a waiter intervened and apologised to OP on the angry customer’s behalf.
OP couldn’t understand why he had made such a big deal about having a dog inside the restaurant.
After all, OP’s dog was well-behaved, and it was allowed by the employees, so he couldn’t see what the issue was.
While I adore dogs, I have always preferred cats. That is not to say that I will not try to pet a dog if the owner allows it, but this is not a common occurrence. For example, if something similar had happened to me a few years prior, I would have left the restaurant.
Why? Because I used to be terrified of dogs, no matter how docile they appeared. I no longer have this extreme fear, but I still avoid eating near dogs. I don’t think it’s particularly strange because many people think like this. So, in my opinion, everyone is a little wrong in this story.
The people in the comments, however, were generally not on his side.
Many mentioned that most countries have laws against bringing pets within the premises.
Usually, only service pets are allowed in most businesses.
I mean it is a place where we eat so it doesn’t sound super hygienic.
I understand that it was raining but it still doesn’t excuse it.
Even I deal with mild allergies so I certainly feel this sentiment.
It really is as simple as that.
A better way to handle this would have been to just call an employee over.
Some people think they are entitled to bring their pets everywhere.
