Stephen King, renowned as the ‘King of Horror,’ has penned some of the most suspenseful and terrifying tales.
From ‘Carrie’ to ‘The Shining,’ the author adeptly delves into the deepest fears of his audience.
Many of his stories have been adapted for the big screen, but there’s one in particular that’s currently stirring up buzz on the internet…
Viewers are flocking to X, previously known as Twitter, to caution fellow movie enthusiasts about its intense and unsettling content!
One viewer says: “I totally thought that one scene was gonna make me pass out lmao.”
“This is not a movie for the faint-hearted, though. It’s pretty creepy! But what else would you expect from Stephen King? I highly recommend it,” another adds.
While a third writes: “Literally the most terrifying and devastating movie I’ve ever seen.”
“Why did I watch that before bed?” cries somebody else."
Directed by Mike Flanagan, the horror thriller features Carla Gugino as Jessie Burlingame and Bruce Greenwood as Gerald, a married couple embarking on a holiday getaway.
Their idyllic retreat takes a dark turn when Gerald suffers a fatal heart attack, leaving Jessie handcuffed to the bed without hope of rescue.
As she struggles to survive, Jessie confronts not only the physical challenges but also her own inner turmoil.
After its release, the film garnered widespread acclaim, particularly for Carla Gugino’s standout performance and Mike Flanagan’s skilled direction.
Even Stephen King himself, known for his discerning opinions on adaptations of his work, praised the film.
He told Vulture (via Screen Rant): “The script broke the book open to get to the interior part of the story in a way that I thought was terrific.”
Impressively, the movie achieved a remarkable 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a significant accomplishment in the horror genre.
However, there’s one scene in particular that proves to be overwhelming for some viewers.
Without revealing too many details, there’s a particularly gruesome scene that has left audiences feeling queasy.
Referencing it on X, one fan writes: “My roommate and I both started screaming and covering our eyes.”
Another person comments: “So freaking brutal, and that stuff doesn’t normally bother me as much.”
Curious about the movie’s title?
It goes by the name Gerald’s Game, a film that was once deemed nearly impossible to adapt for the screen.
Flanagan told The Independent: “Half my life I’ve been trying to make this movie.
“The book, as it’s written, is really impossible to adapt. We had to find a mechanism to make the story cinematic while being faithful to the story, which is a beautiful story.”
