Justin Timberlake, 43, has been arrested in New York.
Timberlake is an actor, singer, songwriter, and former member of the popular boy band NSYNC.
He is often referred to as the ‘Prince of Pop’ and is renowned for hits like ‘Cry Me a River,’ ‘Rock Your Body,’ and ‘Mirrors.’
Just last month, the ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling!’ singer kicked off his sixth tour, the highly-anticipated Forget Tomorrow World Tour.
However, his arrest has now cast a shadow over these recent events.
The arrest could spark another wave of negative publicity for the ‘Like I Love You’ singer, who has already faced criticism following his portrayal in Britney Spears’ 2023 memoir.
According to People, the ‘Toxic’ singer revealed that she had undergone an abortion during her relationship with Timberlake, which lasted from 1999 to 2002.
“Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy,” Spears wrote (according to People). “He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.”
She described the experience as “one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life.”
Spears initially expressed support for Timberlake’s song ‘Selfish’ after the release of her memoir. She took to Instagram, as reported by NBC News, saying, “I am in love with Justin Timberlake’s new song ‘Selfish.’”
She also posted an apology for some of the things mentioned in her book, expressing regret if she had offended anyone she cares about.
However, Timberlake’s response at a New York concert, as documented by Billboard, was defiant: “I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize to absolutely f**ing nobody.”
In response to Timberlake’s remark, Spears appeared to retract her earlier comment, posting, “Someone told me someone was talking s** about me on the streets!!! … I’m not sorry!!!”
Timberlake, who is married to actress Jessica Biel, is reportedly experiencing ’lackluster’ ticket sales for his concerts as well.
Music journalist Touré, speaking to Paula Froelich of NewsNation, commented: “A six-year break from your mid-thirties to your early forties is a really long time [for an artist].
Most of [Timberlake’s] fans have aged out of caring about him. It’s like the old saying goes, ‘You don’t retire – the audience retires you.’”
However, Timberlake’s ticket sales may be the least of his concerns now, following the news of his arrest.
Timberlake was arrested in the early morning of June 18 in Sag Harbor, an upscale village in the Hamptons known for attracting celebrities.
The ‘My Love’ artist was reportedly taken into custody for ‘driving while intoxicated.’
According to MailOnline, Timberlake had dined with friends before his arrest and was stopped shortly after leaving the group.
A source cited by the outlet mentioned that officers regularly monitor the area outside the restaurant, specifically looking for individuals who may have consumed alcohol.
The source informed the outlet, “Nobody was hurt and there was no drama at the scene.”
A representative from the Sag Harbor Police Department confirmed to People that as of the morning of June 18, Timberlake remains in police custody.
According to the BBC, a court official stated that the pop singer is anticipated to face formal charges.
