Brother Gets Schooled For Neglecting Sister’s Dog With The Excuse Of “Letting A Dog Be A Dog”

Pet owners frequently regard their pets as valued members of the family, treating them with the same love, care, and attention as any other family member. This unique relationship between humans and animals has been celebrated for centuries, with pets providing companionship, emotional support, and even physical health benefits to their owners. Whether it’s a dog, cat, bird, or another furry friend, the bond between pet and owner can be extremely strong and rewarding. Now, I’m not saying that everyone treats their pets this way, but there’s nothing wrong with doing so, even if it appears ‘cringe’ to others.

Pets have a unique ability to bring joy and comfort to their owners, resulting in a sense of happiness and well-being within the home. Pets provide unconditional love and loyalty, which can significantly improve the quality of life for their humans. That is why it is so disheartening to see people like this story’s original poster (OP) who believe that ‘letting a dog be a dog’ entails neglecting the actual dog. Now, I’m not saying that petsitters have to adore someone else’s pet, but they must at least fulfil the original owner’s wishes. Apparently, OP did not get the memo and ended up making the dog sick.

Just from the title, I cannot extrapolate what ‘dog being a dog’ actually means.

Right from the start, we can tell that OP isn’t a big fan of dogs, as they think their sister spoils the dog way too much.

OP is annoyed that their sister keeps making excuses when it comes to doing things together since she is always busy with the dog.

When OP’s sister needed a petsitter, OP was okay with doing it, and they would get paid as well.

However, OP also thought that their sister was being way too pretentious with the number of things she wanted them to do when it came to the dog.

OP thinks that a dog should be treated like a dog, so OP put the dog in the backyard even though the sister had requested he not be let outside.

Op thought he was doing fine, and the dog frolicked around in the backyard and even dug a hole.

When the sister came back and realised what had happened over the weekend, she was quite angry at OP and refused to pay them.

OP still thinks that they are in the right since they let the dog be a dog for a weekend and dogs get fleas all the time, apparently.

I am astounded that the OP believes their sister was being pretentious with the requests made. Fortunately, all of the items on the list are basic rules that most pet owners will communicate to the pet sitter. I’m pretty sure I’d have a much longer list if I left my cat in someone else’s care.

Furthermore, OP has no right to dictate how their sister should treat the dog. Whether she treats the doggo as a human baby or a dog has no bearing on OP. This is simply neglect, and I am devastated that the dog ended up with fleas. I hope the OP learns their lesson and understands where they went wrong.

OP did all the things their sister told them not to.

OP should have refused the offer from the start.

After all, no one was forcing OP to take care of the dog.

A commenter even made a comparison to the car in hopes that the OP would understand.

The OP has no right to dictate how their sister cares for the dog.

Honestly, I would be quite angry in this situation.

I hope OP never gets a dog.

That is a very weird thought process to have.

Was it because OP wanted to show their sister that the dog is not a human baby?

Well, OP didn’t get the money, so I think that is fine.

The OP does need to apologise.
