BBC Breakfast host Charlie Stayt was notably absent from his regular role on the show this Friday (June 7).
Typically, Charlie is seen alongside Naga Munchetty from Thursday to Saturday on their renowned sofa, but today, Roger Johnson filled in for him.
Charlie’s absence was unexplained by his stand-in Roger or by his usual co-host Naga. His disappearance follows recent financial troubles due to a bankruptcy threat.
The issue arose from an unpaid tax bill. Charlie, aged 61, and his wife Anne, aged 58, are required to settle a debt that has reached into the thousands.
Their company, Stayt Ltd, where both Charlie and Anne serve as directors, is at the center of these financial woes. Stayt Ltd, which operates as a TV programming and broadcasting business, reportedly has debts amounting to £6,409, some of which dates back to March 2023, according to The Sun.
Despite these challenges, Charlie and Anne maintain a lavish lifestyle in their £2.3 million home in Twickenham. The couple has two children.
The BBC presenter has enjoyed a luxurious lifestyle, thanks to a flourishing career in broadcasting. His background includes an education at a private school during the 1960s.
He began his professional journey in radio before transitioning to television, where he was first employed by the competing network, ITV.
