Project Oxygen Is Officially Revealed As Forever Skies
Far From Home, a newly founded studio has announced their debut title, Project Oxygen, a first-person survival game for the PlayStation 5, Xbox One X, and PC platforms.
The young Polish studio is comprised of developers from companies such as Techland (Dying Light, Dead Island), The Farm 51 (Chernobylite), Bloober Team (Layers of Fear, Blair Witch), and Larian Studios (Divinity: Original Sin, Baldur’s Gate 3) as well as independent developers. Far From Home discussed their apocalyptic project with Power-Up Gaming, breaking down the concept for the game’s yet-to-be-named setting.
To learn more about the origins of Project Oxygen, listen to the following interviews with Producer and Co-Founder Wojtek Liwanowski, Brand Manager and Co-Founder Pawel Jawor, and Creative Director and Co-Founder Tomek Wlazlo.
“It’s hard not to notice the current global situation,” the team added, implying that they were referring to global warming. “Despite the fact that a potential ecological crisis is just around the bend, nothing significant is being done.
When this kind of dread and gloom begins to dominate our regular thoughts, it’s simple to become distracted by the prospect of a potentially exciting environment.”
What was the idea behind Project Oxygen?
So Project Oxygen was conceived prior to the coronavirus epidemic that brought the globe to its knees, and the coronavirus pandemic has simply served to reaffirm the terrible fear that we may not be prepared for an even more urgent global catastrophe.
Our ideas were solidified after witnessing how things were unfolding in front of us in a setting for which we were not intended to be prepared, says the author.
What is the gameplay of Project Oxygen?
It is up to the player to direct one scientist who will drop onto an unfriendly world through a futuristic zeppelin in the game’s first act. The game’s gameplay will revolve around survival in a harsh environment through resource scavenging, crafting, and problem-solving, with some light combat thrown in for good measure.
We also know that the zeppelin itself will be critical to your survival and that it may also contain the key to restoring the Earth to its former ecological splendor in the process.
Is there a release date for Project Oxygen?
There is no indication of a release date at this time, as the game is still in the very early phases of production, and the Far From Home crew is, paradoxically, working from their own residences. Nonetheless, it was an exciting – and uncomfortably timely – debut voyage from an ambitious crew, and one that will undoubtedly be followed closely in the future.
