The She-Hulk writer explains why the abomination appeared in Shang-Chi:

She-Hulk is a lawyer at legal author Why Tim Roth’s Abomination made an unexpected appearance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is explained by Jessica Gao. Attorney at law She-Hulk Jessica Gao, a showrunner and legal author, explains the significance of Abomination’s appearance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The focus of the planned MCU Phase 4 television series is Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany), a defence attorney tasked with protecting super-humans as she transforms into one. One such superhero is Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth), a former British Royal Marines Commando who later transformed into the enormous adversary Abomination in The Incredible Hulk.

On New York City’s streets, the Hulk and the enormous Abomination engage in combat:

Blonsky was given the task in the 2008 movie by Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (William Hurt) to command a squad to apprehend Bruce Banner/the Hulk (Edward Norton). He transforms into the enormous Abomination and engages the Hulk on the streets of New York City using various serums and gamma radiation. But Banner defeats him, and Ross locks him up. The character wasn’t seen again until the 2021 film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, in which he made a brief appearance and engaged in combat with Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme, in a clandestine match (Benedict Wong). Many people were surprised by his comeback, and viewers questioned why he was even included. Fans have been even more energised by Blonsky’s return to the MCU in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Gao now explains why the Abomination returned in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings after a long absence in an interview with Prior to the publication of Shang-Chi, the author acknowledges that Blonsky was included in her initial pitch for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Abomination was added to the movie after she was hired in order for it to fit with the planned series. Here is Gao’s response to the character’s inclusion:

In She-Hulk: Attorney, Gao discloses Blonsky’s Reappearance:

According to Gao, Blonsky’s involvement in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is more than just a passing cameo, as was the case with his appearance in Shang-Chi, and is crucial to the storyline of the show. The main plotline running across the nine episodes of the show would be Walters’ defence of Blonsky, possibly in an effort to rescue him from prison after years behind bars. Gao later attributed Blonsky’s involvement in Shang-Chi to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, who said, “All roads lead to Kevin,” as a result of his use of him in such a significant way.

The information provided by Gao is consistent with Roth’s earlier statements about Abomination, which guaranteed that viewers would discover a lot more about the character in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, including what Blonsky had been up to since Shang-Chi. Given that it has already had an impact on other media before the series even premiered, the impact of the show seems to be rather significant. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is shaping up to be a Marvel Cinematic Universe addition that no fan should miss, especially with Daredevil scheduled to appear before his new series.
