A major power technical failure in Pakistan resulted in massive electricity outage throughout the country on Saturday. The power failure was first reported on social media by residents of major urban areas such as Karachi, Lahore and Multan. After this, the Energy Minister of Pakistan Omar Ayub took to the micro blogging site to address the country. He said that power is being restored gradually starting from the Capital city of Islamabad. Later on Sunday the Ministry updated that electricity has been restored at most places.

The reason for this country wide outage is being investigated and work was being done on to start Pakistan’s major power station Tarbela (located in the northwest) which will lead to the restoration of electricity in the rest of the country gradually, people of Pakistan need to show patience, the minister further added. In a news conference, Minister Ayub said that Guddu power plant, which is located in Sindh Province of Pakistan, developed some fault at around 11.41Pm local time which led to disruption of electricity in other power plants within seconds
Power Restoration will take some time in the whole Pakistan, Spokesperson says
Later on the same day, spokesman for the Ministry of Energy ,Zafar Yab, said the Tarbela and Warsak plants, both in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, had come back online and power was being restored to the transmission of electricity gradually in the whole country. He further added that restoration of power to all areas of the country would take some time.
