Netflix subscribers are highlighting a series they consider the platform’s hidden gem, one that hasn’t received the acclaim of other more popular shows.
Netflix is home to a plethora of outstanding TV content, from beloved classics like ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Friends’ to its own hit originals like ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘Wednesday.’ Yet, a group of viewers believe that the streaming service’s real masterpiece is a lesser-known series.
‘Dark,’ a German-language series produced by Netflix, delves into the mystery of two children’s disappearance in a small town. The plot thickens as it reveals interconnected secrets among four distant families, uncovering a chilling time-travel plot that spans several generations.
Created by Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, who later developed the acclaimed series ‘1899,’ ‘Dark’ first appeared on Netflix in 2017 and concluded with its third season in 2020.
The series was met with outstanding reviews, earning a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The BBC even listed ‘Dark’ as the 58th greatest TV series of the 21st century, a significant accolade given the vast number of shows in contention.

Ever since ‘Dark’ concluded in 2020, there has been a strong fan demand for a fourth season. However, the show’s creators have firmly dismissed this possibility, disappointing many fans.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the creative pair stated that three seasons were ‘just right’ for the story they wanted to tell. They believed that adding more seasons would only make the narrative unnecessarily ‘complicated’.
“It was absolutely the perfect amount. Anything else would have felt like stretching it unnecessarily and making it more complicated on a narrative level. We love symbolism and we believe you have to be true to the symbols you lay out,” Friese explained.
“The triquetra and things coming in three is one of them. It would have felt like selling our souls and not delivering on what we wanted to do [if we had more seasons]. It feels quite right and satisfactory.”
