The series is inspired by Dan Simmons’s 2007 novel, which served as the basis for the first season. It tells a fictionalized version of the 19th-century Arctic expedition, where the HMS Terror and HMS Erebus tragically became trapped, leading to the loss of all 129 crew members.
Jared Harris, Tobias Menzies, Paul Ready, Adam Nagaitis, Ian Hart, Nive Nielsen, and Ciarán Hinds star in this chilling retelling. The wrecks of the ships, discovered in 2014 and 2016, have since sparked various novels, shows, and archeological studies exploring the mystery of the crew’s fate.
