Pierce Brosnan has long gone from Goldeneye to golden helmet, the latter of which he wears and helped style for his role as Doctor Fate in Warner Bros. and DC Film’s upcoming Black Adam.
“It was a very beautifully designed outfit and helmet, which I’m quite fond of,” the actor told Total Film. “[Director] Jaume Collet-Serra is very inclusive in the collaboration. He was wonderful in the sense that he would send me designs of the helmet, so I could participate in the look of it.”
Created by creator Gardner Fox and artist Howard Sherman, the Kent Nelson version of the character that Brosnan performs in the movie debuted in More Fun Comics #55 in May 1940. The son of an archeologist, Nelson by accident kills his father at the same time as exploring the Valley of Ur in Mesopotamia after awakening Nabu, an historic god from the planet Cilia. Nabu then trains Nelson to turn out to be Doctor Fate, an agent of the Lords of Order and a founding member of the Justice Society of America.
Known for his signature blue-and-yellow dress, the crown jewel of Doctor Fate’s ensemble is his golden helmet, aptly known as the “The Helmet of Fate,” which includes the spirit of Nabu. Brosnan as compared Nelson’s relationship with the helmet to that of an addict. “It’s a blessing and a curse,” he said. “It’s almost like drug addiction in some respects. It takes a lot of strength to put on the helmet.” Some variations of the character, like Smallville’s (performed by Brent Stait), are driven mad by their connection to the object.
Doctor Fate’s dress was digitally created
In June, Brosnan found out that Doctor Fate’s dress was digitally created with CGI and motion capture. Though this approach has been criticized while used in movies like Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern, fans were thrilled via way of means of Brosnan’s comedian-accurate attire when he appeared in Black Adam’s first trailer.
Best recognized for his tenure as James Bond, Brosnan joined Black Adam back in March 2021. “You want a special actor to play, basically, a legend. Dr. Fate is a completely effective being, so that you want a person like Pierce who can play powerful without it being overly done,” Collet-Serra informed Vanity Fair in August. “He can do it in a very subtle way. I mean, he is one of the coolest people in the world — he became James Bond! But as a person, he is magnetic, so warm with such gravitas.”
Fans can see Brosnan carrying the helmet he helped layout while Black Adam enters theaters on Oct. 21. More historical past at the movie’s version of Doctor Fate turns into available when Black Adam – The Justice Society Files: Doctor Fate, a one-shot prequel comedian tie-in, hits the Theaters on Oct. 4.
