It’s been two years since the high-profile defamation trial between Depp and Heard, which captured global attention.
The couple first met in 2009, married in 2015, and subsequently divorced in 2017.
In 2018, Heard wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post titled “I spoke up against sexual violence – and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.”
While she did not directly name Depp, his legal team contended that the article indirectly accused him of physical and sexual abuse during their marriage.
This led to Depp suing Heard for defamation in 2022, which prompted her to countersue, claiming he had orchestrated a ‘smear campaign’ against her.
Ultimately, the court awarded Depp $15 million (£12 million), which was later reduced to $10.35 million (£8.27 million). Meanwhile, Heard was awarded $2 million (£1.6 million) in damages.
Now, at 38, Heard has seemingly started anew, moving to Spain with her three-year-old daughter after the tumultuous events in the US.
El Diario de Mallorca reported that Amber Heard has changed her name to Martha Jane Cannary since relocating to Madrid.
When approached by reporters from Hola! about Johnny Depp’s forthcoming visit to Spain, Heard shared her thoughts.
Depp, famous for his role in “Edward Scissorhands,” is expected to arrive in San Sebastian today (24 September) to present his new film, “Modi,” at the film festival.
In the movie, he portrays the painter Amedeo Modigliani.
Addressing questions about her ex-husband’s visit, Heard said: “I’m living here in Madrid, I love Spain. I’m very lucky to be here, and regarding my past, I don’t feel like thinking or talking about it, because I’m happy and at peace.”
Back in 2023, Heard expressed her affection for Spain to reporters, even stating in fluent Spanish, “Yes, I love living here.”
A source told PEOPLE in 2022 that Heard is dedicated to her role as a mother. “She spends every day with her daughter, strolling around, visiting parks, and enjoying family time. Amber is a great mom,” the source explained.
Meanwhile, Johnny Depp, now 61, is also reportedly in a ‘good place.’
A source told US Weekly, “Johnny is in a good place. He really feels at home in London. He’s happy and busy. There’s been a weight lifted.”
