Olivia Rodrigo’s hit song has inspired a Saturday Night Live episode. Bridgerton star Regé– Jean Page made his SNL hosting Debut on Saturday and incorporated a sketch about Rodrigo’s hit song “Driver’s License.” The singer and actress, who also celebrated her 18th birthday on Saturday, reacted to the skit on Twitter.
The singer wrote that Driver’s License SNL skit was the best birthday present one could ever get. Later, she shared a clip on her Instagram stories telling fans that she was losing her mind over the SNL Sketch.
The skit that caught the attention
In the skit, Page plays a round of billiards with manly men – portrayed by the SNL cast members Beck Bennett, Pete Davidson, Mikey Day among others- and heads over to the jukebox to play his favorite song. Soon enough the song “Driver’s License” can be heard and all of the men slowly begin to admit their love for Rodrigo’s heartbreaking composition.
Rodrigo’s hit single reached number 3 on Apple Music’s chart and debuted at No.1 on the Billboard hot 100. Last month Rodrigo spoke to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe about her songwriting process and how she received approval from her favorite artist- Taylor Swift.
The songwriting process
She said that she had written the majority of the song in her living room, crying. She said that is the reason there is so much emotion in it. She wrote the song impromptu and plucked some chords and that is how the song was created. The pain in the song is real, and she has now decided to approach all her songs from an emotional point of reference. She has said that the song is one of her best creations, if not the best sound.
