Mama Cat’s Surprise Delivery In a Package Drop Box Turned Out Purrfectly!

Spring kitten season means kittens are popping up in places everywhere. As cute as they are, rescues are generally overwhelmed with the numbers. And it also means you never know where you might find a cat nursing a litter. For example, our friends at Liberation Cat House shared the story of a special delivery nobody expected at an Orlando leasing office.

Unexpected Delivery in a Package Drop Box

A stray or feral mother cat can go to extreme lengths to find protection for her litter. Rescuers are endlessly surprised by a cat’s choice of fortress, from deep in a retainer wall to the middle of a busy store. They also regularly show up in a car’s engine, so it’s always a good idea to knock and stomp before you drive. (And listen for tiny mews!).

In this case, a feral mama decided that the package drop box at the leasing office was ideal for her kittens. Because why not? We have no idea how she managed to get inside. Sadly, it’s possible she was dumped in there. But imagine the surprise for the person who discovered her there later!

Despite the potential for a surprise encounter, it worked out due to the compassion of the people at the leasing office. These animal lovers took in Mama and her kittens, providing them with a more suitable shelter and nourishment.

Deliver Box Kittens Travel to Rescuers

It’s almost always best to keep the mother cat with her babies unless, of course, she’s not able to adequately care for them. In this case, the folks at the leasing office helped her as she raised all five kittens to the age of weaning, usually around four to six weeks (and sometimes longer).

At that point, the kittens were exploring everything in sight and ready for the next chapter, traveling to Liberation Cat House based in Orlando and now Charlotte, North Carolina, too. Not long after they arrived, the kittens’ unique purrsonalities emerged. Given all the care the received, they were super friendly and cuddly from the get-go.

“This group of kittens is genuinely the nicest bunch of kittens I’ve ever fostered. All of them are extremely social, lovable, playful, and friendly,” they shared.

Dubbed the Delivery Box Kittens, they received the cute names:

  • Courier

  • Delivery

  • Parcel

  • Telegram

  • Postcard

“Courier is the chatterbox of the group and often demands snuggle time on your lap. He can be a bit shy of new things and loud noises so he would do best in a home with a confident cat or to go as a pair with his best bud, Delivery,” Liberation Cat House shared.

“Delivery is the group’s busybody. She is always on the move and can make a toy out of anything. During her rare downtime, she enjoys slow strokes down her back, but sometimes she can’t fight the urge to nibble and swat the hand that pats. She is still a lover girl at heart!”

“Parcel is more independent than the others but won’t pass up a cuddle pile. She is very sweet and loves chasing wand toys. Her favorite snuggle partner is Telegram, and they would make a great pair.”

“Telegram is a complete lover boy. He never lets a lap go cold. His purr motor is second to none! He often falls asleep in the funniest positions because he takes relaxation very seriously.”

“Postcard is very people-oriented and waits patiently for your attention, looking like a little doll the whole time. She will do best as a 3rd to any of the previously mentioned pairs or in a home with another friendly cat. She tends to do her own thing on her own schedule and looks adorable the whole time.”
