Not long ago, a kind individual noticed something unusual in the middle of the road in Marshall, Virginia.
As they approached, a piercing cry echoed through the area, leading to a tiny and helpless kitten.
Everything pointed out to one thing: That kitten had been thrown out of the car and left to fend for herself.
The person immediately came to the kitten’s aid, gently scooping her off the street and taking her to their local animal rescue organization To The ResQ.
The tiny kitten, named Poppet by To The ResQ’s volunteers, was emaciated, terrified, and extremely skittish.
Her body was covered in ticks, she was suffering from severe stomach discomfort and diarrhea, and on top of all – her front paws were broken.
Despite their best efforts, including carefully applying splints to her paws, the volunteers realized Poppet needed specialized care.
They contacted their friends from the Chris Griffey Memorial Feline Foundation in Arlington, Virginia, who gladly took little Poppet in.
Ellen M. Carozza, the president of CGMFF, was happy to see little Poppet, feeling certain she and her team would be able to secure her a good life and a new beginning.
Ellen immediately took charge of her new feline patient’s care.
She took off her old splints, gave her a thorough bath to remove all those nasty ticks, and applied fresh splints for her front paws.
She posted about Poppet on her Instagram, where she received a lot of praise for her commitment to saving the adorable kitten.
Ellen and her team took excellent care of the adorable Poppet.
They made sure she received nutritious food to help her gain weight and provided all the necessary medication to ease her stomach discomfort.
Poppet thrived under their caring wing! She relished the attention and didn’t seem to mind living with splints on her paws.
However, after more than two weeks, she was ready to have them removed. Ellen shared the happy news on her Instagram, saying:
“Look who took her paddles off today! She decided enough is enough and wants them off.”
The moment Poppet’s splints were off, her playful kitten personality truly shone through.
She made sure Ellen knew just how energetic she was by jumping around and exploring, often finding herself perched on furniture or curiously inspecting Ellen’s plants.
Who could blame her for her silly antics? She had to secure her forever home somehow, right?
Speaking of a forever home, little Poppet soon received wonderful news: A kind-hearted cat enthusiast inquired about adopting her.
And just like that, from being abandoned on the road, Poppet found her forever family, ready to leave her past behind and begin a new chapter in her life.
I’m so happy that despite her rough start, everything worked out in Poppet’s favor. I hope other abandoned kittens find the same luck this sweet feline did!
