The widely-loved streaming service has introduced yet another series that audiences are raving about.
Since the beginning, the platform’s original shows have turned into some of the most-watched content available on the site—and they’re here to stay.
In the years to come, it’s expected that Netflix’s original series will make up the largest portion of its content.
However, there’s one new show in particular that has grabbed viewers’ attention right from the start.
It has even climbed to the top of the charts with an impressive 15.9 million views, surpassing Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story to take the number one position.
And viewers just can’t seem to get enough of it.
One fan shared, “This show legitimately feels like a breath of fresh air.”
Another person commented, “It made me rethink my whole life… it made me bawl my eyes out. I wish I had this series sooner.”
“This is what I needed in my life, the best series I’ve watched,” wrote a third viewer.
“I’m in awe of this show,” said another fan. “This is easily the best series of the year and I will fight anyone on that.”
A fifth person simply stated, “I binged this show in less than a day and I’m obsessed!”
The show was developed by Erin Foster and her sister Sara, drawing inspiration from their own lives.
The two sisters also co-host The World’s First Podcast and have appeared in the reality TV parody series Barely Famous.
When discussing the series with Harper Bazaar, Erin said, “I would say that the best writing comes from personal experience because you can speak to a unique perspective that you have in the situation.”
The show’s cast features many familiar faces, including Critics Choice Award winner Kristen Bell, known for her roles in The Good Place, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and Disney’s Frozen.
Bell stars alongside Adam Brody, who is widely recognized for his performances in The O.C. and Jennifer’s Body.
The Netflix original has received an almost perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, boasting an impressive 94% on the Tomatometer, along with an 8.1/10 rating on IMDb.
Even critics can’t stop praising the series.
Chris Wasser from the Sunday Independent describes it as, “Witty and endearing with a snappy premise and a terrific cast.”
Kelly Lawler of USA Today comments: “It’s possible a story that relies on stereotypes and cultural truisms could have turned into something soapy and insensitive, but propelled by its leads and keen sense of modern comedy.”
Lily Moayeri from Under the Radar adds, “The highly binge-able series has excellent comedy writing and a strong cast who move the episodes along at a quick clip. But even with all its on-point humor, it has an undercurrent of seriousness.”
The storyline of the series is described as: “An agnostic podcaster and a newly single rabbi fall in love, but can their relationship survive their wildly different lives and meddling families?”
The show takes inspiration from Erin’s real-life journey of falling in love with a Jewish man and eventually converting to Judaism for love.
Erin explained, “We thought it would be ripe territory for a relationship show, looking at and analyzing challenges in a relationship that felt very true to life, and not these sort of blown-out-of-proportion, manufactured challenges.”
The series has received praise not only for its heartfelt storylines and the range of topics it explores, but also for how refreshing it is to see Bell and Brody’s natural and authentic chemistry, which makes the romantic comedy feel even more genuine.
Fans of Nobody Wants This are already excitedly looking forward to season two, which has been confirmed by Netflix.
