A guy in Texas recently purchased a guitar that was allegedly autographed by Taylor Swift, but it was evident he wasn’t a Swift fan.
How do we know? It didn’t take him long to crush the guitar with a hammer.
Fair warning: this tale may be unpleasant for die-hard Taylor Swift fans, particularly those who would do everything to get a guitar associated with the singer who has written so many treasured songs.
The guitar was destroyed during the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner in Waxahachie, Texas, on Saturday, September 28.
According to its website, the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner is an organization dedicated to “supporting agricultural and rural education for the youth of Ellis County.”
They do this by providing scholarships, animal and agricultural mechanical project awards, and buying projects at the Ellis County Youth Expo.
The group states: “We will do everything within our power to help youth that are willing to work to better themselves, and give them the resources they need to reward themselves.”
As part of its purpose, the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner organized an auction.
According to their Facebook page, one of the things up for auction was a “guitar autographed by country music star Taylor Swift.”
The instrument was supplied by “WGB Sponsors,” and a simple brown guitar was displayed in a Facebook picture.
However, the guitar shown in the auction video was considerably more Swift-themed.
It was embellished with photos from her recent Eras Tour, making it a must-have for every Taylor Swift fan.
When the instrument went up for sale, one guy began bidding on it.
According to a TikTok video shared by an event attendee, the guy paid $3,200 to win the guitar.
While most Swifties would have been ecstatic about such a purchase, this guy had other ideas.
He wasn’t interested in displaying the guitar or keeping it as a piece of memorabilia.
Instead, when the guitar was presented to him, he took a hammer and smashed it to pieces right there.
The video has now gone viral, and some speculate that the man’s actions were politically motivated.
Swift just backed Kamala Harris, which may have turned him off.
Whatever his motivation, the man’s actions elicited a diverse spectrum of responses on social media.
Some readers thought it was “money well spent,” while others said he had squandered both the instrument and his money.
One Twitter user said, “It doesn’t affect Taylor Swift, and he just lost $4,000.”
Another person said, “Imagine spending $4k on a guitar when there’s literally an emergency situation on the east coast. That $4K could have helped a lot of other people instead of some collector.”
