In 2004, 800 pounds of human feces were inadvertently spilled onto a Chicago tourist boat from a Dave Matthews Band tour bus. The incident surprised many as the sewage spilled onto 120 unwitting passengers aboard the boat beneath the Kinzie Street Bridge. YouTuber Zack D. Films has since recreated the incident in a simulation.
Stefan Wohl, the bus driver, let go of the blackwater tank without noticing a boat passing beneath it. The garbage coated more than 75% of the passengers on the boat, which made people sick to their stomachs. The substance had a bad odor and was brownish-yellow in hue, according to the Illinois Attorney General.
Wohl accepted responsibility for his careless actions and was sentenced to community service, probation, and a $10,000 fine. As part of the settlement, the Dave Matthews Band gave the State of Illinois $200,000 and extra cash to regional environmental organizations.
Recently, the event’s simulation went viral, rekindling the public’s revulsion and horror over the strange and regrettable episode that affected so many people.
