Kitty Gets Adopted And Reunites With Her Long-Lost Brother

Meet Ozzy and Butter, two ginger twins who were separated at the shelter when two different families adopted them. But fate had other plans in mind for the seemingly star-crossed brothers.

Maybe it’s fate. Maybe it’s destiny. Maybe it’s Maybelline. Whatever you want to call it, the story of Ozzy and Butter’s unlikely reunion is something straight out of a rom-com. Hallmark, I’ve got your next movie script.

Brian Herrera and Cathleen Cavin seemed to lead parallel lives never destined to intersect. Born just two months apart in Bay Area towns, the 44-year-olds never met, even though they lived in the same three cities over the years and went to the same concerts.

And in July 2014, they both decided to adopt a ginger-and-white kitten (one Ozzy, one Butter) at the Petaluma Animal Shelter, all without ever meeting.

As luck would have it, Cavin and Herrera connected for the first time Tindr, a dating app, in April 2015. But it wasn’t until June 22, 2016, that the two finally met for dinner.

“It was love at first sight,” Cavin told Love Meow. “The date never ended and I went to his house later that night, and I could not believe my eyes. I yelled out, “You have my cat!” He thought I was a crazy cat lady until I had him come over to my house and see Ozzy.”

The next day, Brian did just that. Struck by the uncanny resemblance of their cats, they got out their adoption paperwork and it was confirmed: Ozzy and Butter were brothers.

Cavin shared that when she and her daughter first adopted Ozzy, they struggled with having to choose just one kitten. They wanted to take both brothers home, but knew their landlord wouldn’t agree.

“We were devastated. When we brought Ozzy home, for weeks, Cali, my daughter thought that Ozzy was upset as he wasn’t with his brother and I am sure she was right,” Cavin said. “I made a really stupid promise. I told my daughter I would look for the cat and try to find his brother. I kept saying, ‘I’m going to find him.’ ”

But when Cavin called the shelter only four days later, her (then-unknown) future partner had already adopted Butter. It’s almost unbelievable that two years later they would find the twin brother they’d “been searching for forever.”

On Valentine’s Day 2017, the couple finally decided to introduce the long-lost brothers.

“Ozzy recognized Butter the first night and Butter seemed to be so comfortable with Ozzy that he must have recognized him, too,” Cavin said.

“Unbelievable fate! Brian and I have been together ever since our first date and now we not only found our soul mates, the cats are back together.”
