What happens when there’s a cat on a hot tin roof, actually a Spanish tile roof, and there’s no access to reach it anywhere? You’d have to call in the Cavalry right? Well, that’s what a resident from the LA area tried repeatedly. But unfortunately, authorities were, for whatever reason, not responding to the call to save the cat. When a month went by, it took a Facebook post and connecting with a heroic rescuer who had exactly the right background to save the day.
Cat Stuck On a Hot Tile Roof For a Month!
It was distressing when a resident of a townhouse community noticed a cat had gotten on the tile roof across from her balcony on May 1st. It’s not clear how the black and white cat got there, but there was no roof access and no way down. You can see below the cat was very high up, and probably got there after climbing a nearby tree.

Reaching out to her local fire department and animal control, the resident expected someone would surely come to the rescue. Unfortunately, as we see often, they did not, perhaps thinking the cat would find her way down. In this case, it wasn’t possible and became less likely as the cat faced starvation. However, this cat was very lucky that Vickie was able to slide a tray of food onto the roof as she continued seeking help.

The Cat Kept Crying for Help
Vickie knew this cat was in distress because the kitty would cry and cry and never could come down. It was by then June, and you can imagine the frustration and anxiety at not finding anyone to come to the rescue. But thankfully, all hope was not lost.
“She has been crying but is too scared to jump down. I’m desperate to find someone with a tall enough ladder (32 ft) so I can try and trap her. Is anyone able to help?” she posted to Facebook.
Finally, her post to a local rescue group reached the right person: David Loop. He had the rare combination of skills and equipment to reach that high rooftop. Plus, he’s the president of a rescue, Sierra Pacific Furbabies.
A Dramatic All-Day Rescue Effort
In David, Vicki was able to find someone with access to a bucket truck to reach the roof. A ladder just wouldn’t do it in this case because it was so high!
As it turned out, Loop has previously rescued kittens stuck high on utility poles and has been helping homeless animals for years. But even so, it wouldn’t be easy to get to the mama cat and bring her to the ground safely.

First, he had to go up with a live trap and wait for the kitty to go inside. Luckily, she decided to go in or else this rescue might have taken a tragic turn. Then, it was time for another ride high to the rooftop, where Loop carried the covered trap back down to the ground. Success!

Released into a larger kennel, you can see his heroism continued as he tried to pet her so she would realize she was safe and sound. After a month of distress, she wasn’t so sure her trials were over. Yet, we can be sure life is going to get much better for her from now on.
