The sudden removal of Kiran Bedi as Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry last evening might be surprising however top sources of the BJP are saying that the decision was not taken as hastily as it seems. Before being sacked from the post of Lt. Governor, Mrs. Bedi was reviewing the COVID-19 vaccination drive in the Union Territory. The decision to remove Mrs. Bedi has come at a time when the ruling Congress government, led by Chief Minister V Narayansamy, is facing crisis amid resignations of its four MLAs. During the four-and-a-half years of the governance, the relations between the State Government and Mrs. Bedi never looked smooth. CM Narayansamy himself campaigned for the removal of Kiran Bedi from the post of Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.

Chief Minister Narayansamy has been campaigning for Mrs. Bedi for long time

“With the removal of Mrs. Bedi, BJP has robbed one of the biggest election issues for the ruling government”, a source close to BJP said. Kiran Bedi has been accused by the Congress Party for putting obstacles in its way. Just last week itself, Chief Minister Narayansamy alongwith MLA Malladi Krishna Rao went to Delhi to meet President Ram Nath Kovind and requested him to remove Kiran Bedi as Lieutenant Governor. It is interesting to note here that MLA Malladi Rao is among the four MLAs to quit the present government whereas two MLAs- A. Namassivayam and E. Theeppainjan joined the BJP after resignation.

Contesting upcoming polls with Kiran Bedi as the party’s face would not have been ideal, sources say

It was quite evident to the BJP that even its own ally AINRC was on good terms with Kiran Bedi. With this removal, the party looks to deliver a strong message to the people of Union Territory that BJP Government at Delhi did not favour Kiran Bedi either. According to the sources, if the current ruling Government of Puducherry fell short of majority, then BJP would think of federal administration. Sources have also pointed out that contesting the upcoming elections with Kiran Bedi as a face would not have been ideal for the party as Congress will have a campaign focusing on Mrs. Bedi’s controversial term. Let us see if this move works for the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP). cuban dating websites
