In a recent interview, Lil’ Kim was psyched about Teyana Taylor’s potential to play her in her biopic or a documentary.
The reason behind her choice
She has explicitly said that she wants people to understand and no one can do that other than someone who’s been from the same neighborhood. So, the Brooklyn born hip hop legend wants only Teyana to do justice because she can’t think of anyone else more fit for the role.
According to Kim, she has envisioned her movie being organized into parts, some of which she plans to play herself and wants to cast different people to play her as a child and young adult. She does want to give some kids a chance but she already has a favorite.
Other stories about women in Hip Hop that were told
Taylor has confirmed officially that she would be retiring from music, so she should have more time exploring different genres especially acting and maybe even directing skills. We should all keep in mind that Taylor took home the award for video director at the BET 2020 awards in June.
The stories about the women in hip hop and their contributions have been retold over the past many years with Roxanne Shante getting her biopic on Netflix in 2018 and even Salt-N-Pepa’s biopic on Lifetime.
Kim’s career in Hip Hop
After selling more than 30 million singles worldwide and over 15 million albums since her 1994 debut alongside the rap out Junior M.A.F.I.A, Lil Kim was a protégé and a lover of the late rap Kingpin The Notorious B.I.G during the 1990s.
