Arising new hopes for the year ahead, vaccination for Novel Corona virus (COVID-19) start off at Nursing Homes in New York City. Though, vaccine shots began in Empire State Hospitals last week, it was on only on Monday when vaccine was made available for residents and workers of nursing homes. A total of 618 nursing homes have been selected for the first phase for receiving shots ofPfizer /BioNTech vaccine. The vaccination program is being administered by CVS and Walgreens Pharmacy Chains. This vaccination program for nursing homes is expected to last for six weeks. The vaccination process includes three clinical days being one for the first shot, one for the second and a third for any remaining staff members.

Andrew Cuomo, New York Governor, said that the first round of vaccine shots would take about two weeks. He further stated that the “target population” would be expanded in due time. “In addition to an estimated 3.46 lakhs doses of Moderna’s vaccine expected this week, New York is projected to receive an additional 1.20 lakhs Pfizer vaccines” the Governor added. He also showed concern on the new strain of COVID-19 found in UK and called on the Federal Government to take immediate steps to prevent its spread to the United States. He stressed on the importance of halting or pre-flight COVID testing for flights to New York from UK. He also criticized the government claiming that the government was not proactive in preventing the spread of corona virus to New York from Europe
during the beginning of the pandemic situation.

United States has been worst hit by this pandemic with total confirmed cases inching towards 20million with 3.41 people succumbed to the deadly corona virus.
